About the event
The Language of Heaven: Growing in Faith with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The gifts of the Holy Spirit — Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Fortitude, and Fear of the Lord — are one of the least understood aspects of the Christian life, but these movements of inspiration from God are essential for growing in faith and virtue. The Christian mystical tradition has compared them to sails on a boat, collecting and directing a wind far more powerful than the oars of human effort. Fr. John Wilson, the Chaplain of the Thomas Merton Institute and Columbia Catholic Ministry, is completing a dissertation in Sacred Theology on faith and the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. This talk will present the fruits of his study, together with practical advice for hoisting your sails!
